William "Bill" Carl Davis

De Soto - William "Bill" Carl Davis, passed away at his home on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 1:56 a.m. Bill was born March 13, 1926 in Carbondale to Clarence and Verna Mae (Greer) Davis. He married Cecila Elizabeth King on April 5, 1947 in Carbondale. They celebrated 66 wonderful years together. She survives and is of De Soto. Other survivors included are, three sons, Larry Carl Davis, James William Davis and Rodney Dwane Davis all of De Soto; two daughters, Carolyn Sue (Gary) Lindsey of Makanda, and Tammy Lee (David) Schoolcraft of Elkville; four brothers, Charles Avery Davis of Carterville, Dale (Ruth) Davis of Springtown, TX, Carol Dean (Linda) Davis of Marion, and Clarence Junior (Judy) Davis of Marion; four sisters, Joyce Wingett and Jean (Charles) Needham all of Murphysboro, Bonnie Pedigo of Herrin, and Suzanne (Richard) Hall of Evrin, TX; twelve grandchildren, Garrison Kent (Jennifer), and Trena Sue Lindsey, Michael (Neilig Yu) Corley, Becky Miner, John Norris, Mark (Stephanie), Brandon and Raelyn Schoolcraft, Nicholas and Gracie Denning, and Brian and Amy Davis; and sixteen great grandchildren. Bill is preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister. He started his own business, Davis Disposal for 5 years, and then started with Burris Disposal, for 30 years until his retirement in 1988. Bill was a former member of the Laborer Union, and of the Makanda Baptist Church. He had worked as a Farmer as well. He loved farming and raising his horses; especially his Tennessee Walking Horses. They were his pride and joy. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Reverend Gerald Holmes officiating. Interment will be at North Oakwood Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Makanda Baptist Church, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
