Marion - Wayne Pharis Heern, 67, of Marion, passed away at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at his home with his loving family by his side. Wayne was born October 22, 1947 in Carbondale, to Samuel Pharis and Norma Louise (Pribble) Heern. They precede him in death. He married Linda Sue Spiller on August 3, 1968 in Carterville, together they shared 46 years of marriage. She survives and is of Marion. Wayne is also survived by his two sons, Wayne (Karen) Heern Jr. of Makanda, and Bill (Mary) Heern of Bloomington; daughter, Kristi (Brian) Muldoon of Firestone, CO; two sisters, Sue (Jim) Davis of Makanda, and Kay (Richard) Oliver of Savannah, GA; and five grandchildren, Phoenix, Asmon, Gabby and Sophia Heern and Riley Muldoon. After obtaining his Associates degree in Accounting, he worked for Southern Illinois University as an Academic Contract Specialist in Human Resources; he retired on June 30, 2012 after 18 years of dedicated service. He also had worked at Associated Lumber; had been a barber; and a Janitor at New School. He loved to read Westerns and Christian books, especially the Bible. He was a Deacon at the Union Hill Christian Church of Carbondale, and a member of the Makanda Masonic Lodge #434 of Makanda. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Union Hill Christian Church, of Carbondale, with Rev. Gerald Holmes officiating. It was Wayne's wishes to be cremated following the service. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, and will be accepted at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.
