Wanda Muriel Russell

Carbondale - Wanda Muriel Russell, 81, of Carbondale, passed away at 12:53 a.m. on October 9, 2012 at St Louis University Hospital, St Louis, MO. There will be a Memorial Service on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Reverend Paul Hicks officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday, October 19, 2012. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro. Wanda was born January 13, 1931 in Carbondale to Freeman and Clarissa (Myers) Pulcher. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Olen Gurley. She was united in marriage to Rodger D Russell July 29, 1955. They spent 28 years together and had two children. Survivors include a son, James R "JR" (Amy Jo) Russell of Carbondale; a daughter, Sandy (Joe) Pierce of DeSoto; a sister, Anita (Maynard) Weimer of Valpariso, IN.;six grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Evans and Casey Pierce all of DeSoto, Jessica and Jaidyn Russell of Carbondale, Reid Burke of Santa Clara, California and Caitlin Burke of Carbondale; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Jason Evans; several nieces and nephews, numerous cousins; and a special friend, Dot Ferguson of Carbondale. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, in August 1983, parents, Freeman in January 1933, and Clarissa in June 1987, and her step-father, Olen in November 1993. She first started working in 1951 at Hoosier Cardinal Corporation Ordill Plant, and then went to work at Paul Brown Agency in Carbondale; where she worked in insurance and real estate. She later moved to Cherry Hill Realty where she obtained her real estate and brokerage license(s) and served as the office manager. She enjoyed her career, cooking, traveling and most importantly spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love her. Memorials may be made out to the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
