Virginia "Jimmy" Lee Mezo

GORHAM – Virginia “Jimmy” Lee Mezo, 88, of Indian Trail, NC, formally of Gorham, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Novant Health Medical Center in Matthews, NC.



Virginia was born on March 9, 1933 in St. Genevieve, Missouri to Ralph and Laura Sarah (Casey) Stone, Sr. She married Ralph E. “Squeak” Mezo on May 24, 1952 in Gorham. He preceded her in death on August 27, 1994.



Survivors include her daughter Kimberly (Patrick) Daughton of Indian Trail, NC; grandchildren, Kailee and Jonathan Daughton; sister, Maye (Clyde) Wills of Murphysboro; brother, Gene (Jamie) Stone of Peoria; brother-in-laws, Kenny (Brenda) Mezo of Grand Tower and Phil Maxheimer of Murphysboro; and several nieces and nephews.



She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Mezo; siblings, Dorothy Porter, Ralph “Bud” Stone, Jr., Cathryne Bunselmeyer, Faye Maxheimer; brothers-in-law, Herman, Sherman, Russell Mezo, and sister-in-law, June Freeman.



Virginia was of the Methodist Faith. She worked at Lustour Corporation in Murphysboro for twenty years. Virginia would do anything for anyone as she always wanted to help people in need. Everyone that met her loved her. Virginia enjoyed working large (1000+ piece) jigsaw puzzles with her friend Joyce Daughton and their dog, Rudy, working in the yard, playing pinochle and watching her grandkids play sports.



Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the Grand Tower United Methodist Church with Rev. Sandy Estes officiating. Interment will follow at Goodbread Cemetery in Gorham. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.



Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Grand Tower United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
