Goreville – Violet E. Stearns, 102, passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Heartland Memorial Hospital, Marion.
Violet was born on July 13, 1914 to Marshall and Elverta (Gordon) Johns in Johnson County.
She married Raymond Milton Stearns on October 19, 1932 in Goreville. He proceeded her in death on May 20, 1987.
Survivors include, one daughter, Joanna “Joy” Jones of Goreville; and one grandson, Billy Wayne (Donna) Stearns of Hudson, FL; one sister, Cora Bell Childers of Marion; two great-grandchildren, Diantha R. Thompson and Billy Ray Stearns; and two great great-grandchildren, Alan J. and Aviendha R. Thompson.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, son and daughter-in-law Billy Ray (Linda) Stearns; and son-in-law Jack Jones; three brothers, and one sister.
Services for Violet will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Busby Chapel Church in Goreville with Reverend Kenny Blumenstock officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at the church. Burial will take place in Busby Cemetery, next to her husband, Ray.
Violet was the oldest member of the Busby Chapel Church. She worked as a cook at Bob White Café in Vienna. Violet loved people and always enjoyed having company.
Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Busby Chapel Church in Goreville.
