GOREVILLE - Victor T. Maze, 88, of Goreville, passed away at 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Goreville Methodist Church, Goreville, with Rev. Tim Woodard officiating. Burial will be in Busby Cemetery, Goreville. Friends can call at the Goreville Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with a Masonic service will be at 12:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Goreville United Methodist Church or to the Saline Masonic Lodge #339, Goreville. Envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent c/o Meredith Funeral Home, 300 South University, Carbondale, IL 62901. Victor was born in Goreville on October 14, 1923 to Herschel and Dessie May (Threet) Maze. He graduated from the Goreville High School and had served his country in the US Army during WWII. He retired from the Illinois Department of Public Health as a food sanitation inspector. On April 29, 1999 he married Jo Ann Wilkinson at Vienna. She survives and is of Goreville. Other survivors include a Stepson, Don Wilkinson of West Frankfort; two Stepdaughters and their husbands, Julie and Gary Hammers of LaSalle and Kathy and Bryan Galli of Brisbane, Australia; eight step grandchildren; and five step great grandchildren. Victor is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Herschel Maze Jr. He was a member of the Goreville United Methodist Church, Life Member of the State of Illinois Masonic Lodge; Saline Masonic Lodge #339, Goreville, where he was a 63 year member; Eagles Aerie Lodge 2457, Marion; American Legion Post 1047, Marion; Ancient Scottish Rite, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Valley of Southern Illinois, Belleville; VFW Post 1301, Marion; Ainad Shrine Temple, East St. Louis; Williamson County Shrine Club, Marion; Johnson County Farm Bureau, State of Illinois, Department of Public Health and a past president of the Goreville State Bank. He loved to work on his farm, caring for the cattle, and gardening. Victor will always be remembered by his love for life and the smile and twinkle in his eyes.
