Venita R. Stewart

Makanda - Venita R. Stewart, 84, passed away 11:01 a.m. at her home on Friday, April 3, 2015, with her loving family by her side. Venita was born in Carbondale, on October 20, 1930, to Thomas H. and Hazel (Holder) Lipe. She married Richard F. Stewart on April 17, 1954 in Carbondale. He survives and is of Makanda. Venita is also survived by a son and daughter-in law, Richard J. and Linda R. Stewart of Makanda; three grandchildren, Natasha Elizabeth Winn, of Texas, and Laurel Rae and Ian Michael Stewart both of Makanda; and a brother, Thomas Allen Lipe of Harrisburg. She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Velinda Lee Winn, and two sisters, Velma Brown and Virginia Lipe. Venita was a member of Lakeland Baptist Church of Carbondale. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Pastor Phil Nelson officiating. Interment will be at Lipe Cemetery, Makanda. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 and from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the funeral home. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Carmi Baptist Children's Home, Lipe Cemetery or Lakeland Baptist Church, and will be accepted by the funeral home.
