Truman Wayne Burk

Truman Wayne Burk, 79, died on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale of heart failure with family by his side.

Truman was born on May 11th, 1945 in Carbondale, to Lee and Violet Burk.

In 1963, Truman graduated high school and began working as a roofer with his father. Eventually, he moved to Joliet and worked as a construction worker until he started his own roofing company, Burk Roofing.

In 1988 he began exchanging letters with his future wife, Mirasol “Myra” Burk (neé Canales). He visited her in the Philippines in 1989 where they were married. The two were lifelong companions and were blessed with two children: Patrick and Sean.

Truman returned to Carbondale with Myra that year, and started Burk Properties shortly after. He was a hard worker, and knew every aspect of home maintenance and construction, building the home in which he would raise his family in 1998.

He was an avid reader and encouraged lifelong learning, as well as traveling and experiencing other ways of life, making frequent trips with his family to the Philippines to visit his in-laws. He enjoyed woodworking, and tinkering with electronics and gadgets, and Korean soap operas.

Truman is survived by his wife, Myra, and his sons, Patrick and Sean; as well as close family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Andy and Don.

Truman will be remembered for his quick wit, dedication to family, and indomitable work ethic. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at Meredith Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service.
