CARBONDALE – Timothy Eugene Carter, 65, of Carbondale, went to be with his wife, son and Lord and Savior on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN.
Tim was born September 20, 1955 to Bernie and Pearl (Parker) Carter in Little Rock, AR. He married Dolly Marie Nance on December 31, 1974 in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2019.
Tim was a member of Drury Christian Church, Carbondale. He and his family are longtime members of the Giant City Booster Club and the athletic field at the school is named after him, Carter Field. Tim was a founding member of the Southern Illinois Fire Relief Fund and worked tirelessly to provide much needed help to those who had lost their homes to fire. Tim loved sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. Tim loved his family, kids and grandkids. He was best known for his giving heart and cracking (inappropriate) jokes.
He is survived by sons, Joshua Eugene Carter, and Christopher Eugene Carter and wife Lindsey, all of Carbondale; six grandchildren, Cameron, Ethan, Leah, Annabelle, Michael and Harlow; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jerry (Sherri) Nance, Pam (Bud) Robbins, Jeanie (Dennis) O’Keefe, Beth (Bruce) Francis, Becky (Alan) Roberts, Sandy (Lee) Taylor and Margie (Ed) Williams; a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Dolly; son, Jason “Tank” Eugene Carter on September 25, 2018; brother-in-law, Robert Caraway and nephew, Chad O’Keefe.
Due to restrictions private services will be held. Burial will be next to the love of his life in Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro. Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale assisted the family with arrangements.
