T. Bruce Shingleton

T. Bruce Shingleton, 62, of Makanda, passed away 6:50 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012, in Saint Clair County, Il. Bruce was born May 27, 1950 in Alto Pass, to Earnest and Janet (Bryant) Shingleton. He married Tina Williams on June 28, 1981 in Makanda. She survives and is of Makanda. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law Tracy and Steve Thomson of Makanda. Other survivors include three grandchildren, Karsten, Keegan and Kholie; one brother, Ray of Hurst; three sisters, Sharon (Bob) Dorris of Carbondale, Tresea Shingleton and Paula Ellis both of DeSoto, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd and James Shingleton; and two sisters, Patty Dickerson and Vickie Cole. Bruce was a member of Makanda Masonic Lodge, Carbondale Eagles, and the DuQuoin American Legion. He worked for Unity Point School for over 22 years and was currently the maintenance supervisor. Bruce was also serving as the road maintenance supervisor for the Village of Makanda. He served his country in the U.S. Army. When Bruce was not working, he was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, with Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Visitation will be Monday December 3, 2012 from 5 until 8 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Alto Pass Cemetery in Alto Pass with military services. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Haven House in St. Louis, Missouri or the Masonic Children's Home Murphysboro and will be accepted at the funeral home or to the Bruce Shingleton Scholarship Fund at the Unity Point School and will be accepted either at the funeral home or at the school.
