Cobden - Steve Kraus, 60, of Cobden, passed away at 9:55 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Steve was born June 17, 1954 in Oshkosh, WI, to Lyle and Marilyn (Lange) Kraus. He is survived by his two step-sons, Kevin (Amy) Allen and their son, Connor, all of Cobden, and, Chad Allen of Carbondale, IL; a brother, Dave (Nancy) Kraus and their daughters Nicole, Tabitha, and Jennifer, all of Oshkosh, WI; and his parents, Lyle and Marilyn of Oshkosh, WI. Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Shaw, and a brother, Gary Kraus. He proudly served in the Navy from 1972 to 1975. After obtaining his degree thru Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, he started his employment in the Human Resources Department, working with student admissions thru the workforce program. After 22 years of dedicated service, he retired in 2009. He enjoyed his retirement, he was able to concentrate on his woodworking, traveling to different areas of the Jamaica, going to his grandson's games, and spending valuable time with his dear friends and family. Steve loved his dear friends John (Kim) Newsome and their sons, Jason and Ryan, where he spent many days being a part of their family. He had a special bond with his grandson, Connor, and was even given a new name by him, "Steve-Pa." Steve will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. To honor Steve, the family is hosting a Celebration of Life at Blue Sky Vineyard, 3150 S. Rocky Comfort Rd, Makanda, on Sunday, May 17th, 2015 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale. The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for all their hard work and kindness.
