Somchai Thipkhosithkun

CARBONDALE - Somchai Thipkhosithkun, 78, passed away on March 7, 2022, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his loving family.



Somchai was born on December 25, 1943, in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand to Tinyi and Tongpu Sae Lao. Somchai married Suk Bhromtep on August 26, 1973, in Murphysboro, IL.



Somchai served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he received The Army Commendation Medal for his Meritorious Service. He attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from the School of Engineering and Technology and Master of Science degree in Education.



Somchai was an entrepreneur who ran several local businesses, including Carbondale Cycle, Campus Cycle, Greyhound Bus Station, Yellow Cab Co., On the Island Pub & Asia Food Specialties.



Somchai's hobbies and interests included politics, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, football, pets, economics, music, cars, bicycles, cooking, and architecture.



Somchai is survived by his loving wife, Suk; son, Thiwa (Stephanie) Thipkhosithkun and their children, Nathaniel, Kristen, Owen, and Marissa; daughter, Patra (Martin) Beaulieu and their children, Cedric and Bryan; son, Alex Thipkhosithkun (Keely Bailey); his brother Somboon Thipkhosithkun and sister Nang Jiaranaitanakij.



He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Ong-Ard, Somkiat, and Somsak Thipkhosithkun, and sister, Somluck Srisuk.



Memorial Services for Somchai will be held on Sunday, March 20 starting at 1:00 pm at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Military Rites. Following the memorial service will be a gathering time until 3:00 pm. To leave a story or memory of Somchai visit www.meredithfh.com.
