Carbondale - Shirley Lorraine Doyle, 80, passed away peacefully at noon on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 in Deer Park, TX, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born July 22, 1935 in Bellingham, WA to Victor Baton and Doris Marie (Newlove) Haskins. She married the love of her life, Lawrence "Larry" Frances Doyle on June 2, 1974 in Carbondale. Together they shared 11 years of marriage. He preceded her in death. Shirley is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Shelley (Nelson) and Vicente "Vinny" Perez of Carbondale, Julia (Nelson) and Alex Ulabarro of Deer Park, TX, and Cindy (Doyle) and Tom Van Eimeren of Mesa, AZ; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frederick "Fred" and Yoshi Haskins, Lyle and Annette Haskins, and Robert "Bob" and Jean Haskins; sister, Eileen Haskins Israel Davis; five grandchildren, Andrea and Jerrica Farrar, Logan Ulabarro, Jordan and Jayden Van Eimeren; and five great grandchildren, Teresa Yvette Castillon, Charles "C.J." Swope, Nadia Perez, Cameron Swope and Giovanni Perez. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Shirley taught elementary school in Burien, WA and later in Carbondale, she touched the lives of many children. She was an excellent storyteller for her siblings, students, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She owned and operated Pleasant Hill Preschool for a few years as well. Her Master's degree in Library Science, led her to become a librarian at the Veteran's Hospital in Marion. She had a very creative side that included playing the violin and painting both portraits and landscapes. She loved hiking, camping and exploring logging roads in the Cascade Mountains. She was a Christian and when she was in Carbondale, attended the Drury Christian Church. Shirley was well known in the community and very loved by all who met her. She will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone at Manor Court for their compassionate and loving care given to their mother while she was there. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to the time of service on Sunday. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at Oakland Cemetery of Carbondale. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Carbondale Elementary School District 95 Administration Center, Attn. Michael Shimshack, 925 S Giant City Road, Carbondale, IL, 62902 or St. Francis Care Animal Shelter, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
