Carbondale - Sherri Lynne Rowlands, , 58, of Carbondale, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Sherri was born March 4, 1957 in Carbondale to James Walter and Deleta Darlene (Dobbs) Fisher. She is a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is survived by her five children, James, Brendan (Trina), Gwen (Adam), Zack, and Michael; nine grandchildren Dylan, Anna, Chloe, Pierce, Ellery, Boston (adopted by Kelly and Lechelle Hendricks), Sam, Grace, and Edward; her mother, Deleta George; six siblings, Brenda (Kevin), Billie Jean (Dwight), Renee (Dave), Steve (Tracey), Bill (Lisa), and Richard, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. Sherri was born a firecracker. Throughout life she had a wry wit and acerbic sense of humor. One of her fondest delights was torturing her children by tickling them, teasing them, or by being stubborn, stubbornness she "came by honest". She will be remembered for rolling her eyes at people's jokes ("Whatever") and for sticking her tongue out when people lovingly teased her. Sherri was a lifelong reader, but her children and grandchildren were her true happiness. Sherri surrounded herself with pictures of her loved ones. She lived for the Christmases when they could all be together. Sherri served in the U.S. Air Force until she married and had children. Then she focused on being a mother until her divorce. It is a testament to her strength and willpower that she managed to take care of five (obnoxious) children while putting herself through college at SIU to earn her Master's Degree. Sherri lived the last year of her life with her best friend and mother, Deleta George. Sherri lived by two aphorisms which she repeated to those around her: "c'est la vie" and "life is rough, times are hard, and then you die." Now that Sherri has passed on she would want no one to forget: that's life. It might be hard at times, it might be rough, but its life and it's worth living.
