Sandra Lynn Milligan

February 19, 1949 — February 19, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and stalwart member of the Vienna community Sandra Lynn Milligan. Sandra peacefully departed from this world on her 75th birthday, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.

Born and raised in Joliet, Illinois, Sandra married Michael Milligan on July 24, 1976 in Giant City State Park and moved to southern Illinois where she set down new roots with her own family. She was widely regarded as a gentle soul with a smile and kind words always at the ready for anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother of three, and grandmother who found immense joy in nurturing her family. Though Sandra may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories she created and the love she shared.

Sandy is survived by her husband Michael Milligan, her three children: Emily (Jeremy) Cook, Michael (Shannon Johnson), and Timothy, as well as her adoring grandchildren, Scarlett and William Cook; sisters Daun Waggoner and Teresa Greenberg; sisters-in-law, Kathy Young and Julie Renschler; and mother-in-law Wanda Colleen Milligan as well as a host of family and friends who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Margaret Papesh.

A passionate gardener with a green thumb like no other, Sandra found solace and joy among her flowers and plants. In addition to her horticultural pursuits, Sandra was a talented artisan who delighted in creating intricate jewelry pieces. Each piece she crafted was a testament to her creativity and attention to detail. Whether it was a pair of earrings for a friend or a necklace for a loved one, Sandra's jewelry was imbued with love and cherished by all who received it.

Though she may have bid farewell to this world, Sandra's legacy of love, kindness, and creativity will continue to bloom eternal, a testament to the beautiful soul she was. Rest in peace, dear Sandra, knowing that you will always be remembered with love and fondness by all whose lives you touched.

A celebration of Sandra's life will be held at a graveside service in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale on March 2, 2024 at 2pm, where loved ones will gather to honor her memory and share stories of how she touched their lives.
