Ruth G. Howell Brewer

CARBONDALE - Ruth G. Howell Brewer, 90, died Monday May 7, 2012 at 1:45pm with her daughter by her side. She was born February 22, 1922 (2-22-22) in Benton , IL. Ruth was the youngest of six children born to Lois Milton and Mary Elizabeth (Escue) Howell. Family was the most important thing in Ruth's life. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters Peggy Ann and Marylyn Sue; and was an adoring and loving daughter, sister, aunt, and grandmother. By example she instilled love, devotion and strong sense of family to her daughters and her grandchildren. Ruth was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter Peggy (Miller) and son-in-law Roger Bagley; Grandchildren; Teresa Lay (Leo) Bodensteiner , (Sherry) Lay, Paula Smith (Keith) Feigenbaum, Sam (Jean) Lay, Stephen (Cathy) Lay; Great Grandchildren; Eric Goff, Alex Schmidgall; Elizabeth Bodensteiner, Kathryn Bodensteiner, Kayla , Amanda , Jason , Brandon and Christina Lay, Meghan and Matthew Lay, and Sydney Lay. Great Great Grandchildren; Madeline and McKinley Voisard, and Liam Schmidgall born May 7, 2012. Step Grandchildren; Tammy (Bagley) Rinella, Rodney Bagley and Brad Bagley. Nieces and Nephews; Royce Ann, Bruce, Bobby, Shirley, Jackie, Clifton, Richard Dean, Linda Lee, Billy and Bobby. She was preceded in death by her husband Ryburn Brewer, daughter Marylyn Sue (Miller) Schmitto, grandsons Scott Lay and Michael Smith, siblings Callie, Carl, Hubert, Clifford, and Mable, nephew Lee Cantrell and niece Norma (Howell). Thank you to Pat, Dianna, Paula B., the staff at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County and TIP Hospice for your loving care and assistance. Services will be 1 pm Friday, May 11 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Bruce Howell officiating. Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm with services at 1 pm. Interment will be at Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Herrin. Memorials to Grace United Methodist Church are the preferred form of remembrance.
