Russell Wayne Biggs

CARBONDALE – Russell “Rusty” Wayne Biggs, 54, of Carbondale passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family.



Rusty was born on June 13, 1966 in Carbondale to George and Almeta Lynn (Hicks) Bean. Rusty’s father, George, died while serving his country in the Vietnam War. Almeta Lynn married Frank Biggs who adopted and raised Rusty. Rusty married Sharon Busche in Carbondale on May 28, 1994.



Rusty was a retired Special Agent for the Illinois State Police (ISP). He served as a Deacon at Murdale Baptist Church, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, IBSA – Disaster Relief, and an Upward Basketball Coach. Rusty loved talking to and being around people. Always making people laugh and smile, and always having the right thing to say was his specialty. He truly never met a stranger. From being a mentor to those at church to showing love to those he encountered in his time with ISP, Rusty is known to everyone as a loving, kind-hearted, and compassionate person. He was a beautiful representation of Christ’s unconditional love for us.



Rusty is survived by his wife Sharon; daughter, Mollie Biggs; mother, Lynn Biggs and sister, Shannon (Doug) Anderson both of New Port Richey, FL. Aunts and uncles Norma Langan of Carbondale, Joyce and Bill Vaughn of Carbondale, Joyce and Leonard Basler of Carbondale, and Chuck and Jan Bean of Du Quoin.



He was preceded in death by his adoptive father Frank Biggs and his biological father George Bean.



A Celebration of Life service for Rusty will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Murdale Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday at the Church. Due to COVID-19, temperatures will be checked at the door with masks and social distancing required. The Celebration of Life service will be live streamed on Murdale Baptist Church Facebook page. Memorials may be made to Murdale Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church.
