MURPHYSBORO – Ronald “Ron” Kujawa, 71, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ron was born October 9, 1948 to Edward and Mildred (Williamson) Kujawa in Murphysboro. He married Vickie Kiefer on February 14, 1981 in Pinckneyville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Vickie; children, Ronald Kujawa, Jr., Monica Kujawa and Rachel Stull; grandchildren, Kyle, Amber, Kiefer, Madison, Gracie, and Dane; brothers, David and Jeffrey Kujawa; and sister, Sue Garbis.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
Ron worked as a heavy equipment operator for IUOE Local 318 of Marion, UMWA Consolidation Coal Company Burning Star No. 2 Mine, Smith Reidell, and IUOE Local 520 of Minneapolis, MN until his retirement in 2008. Ron enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing and NASCAR. He was a lover, protector, and caretaker of animals. He served the tribal community as a volunteer firefighter, teaching tribal members to use heavy equipment, and assisting with the equine and buffalo programs for the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 29 at the funeral home with Pastor Josh Wehrmeier officiating. Burial will follow in DeSoto City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wright Way Animal Shelter or St. Frances Care Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home.
