CARBONDALE - Roger Wayne Bagley, 70, passed away Friday June 14th, 2013 at 11pm in Carbondale with his family at his side. He was born the youngest of two on July 2nd, 1942 to Marlin Wayne and Mary Elizabeth (Gilmer) Bagley in Vergennes, Il. Roger married Sharren Sue Scribner in Nokomis Il. in 1961. They had three children Tammy, Rodney and Brad Bagley. In 1978 he married Peggy Miller Lay on July 2nd in Carbondale. He graduated from Nokomis High School in 1960 where he played football and ran track. His love for music was highlighted by playing trombone, bongos and guitar. Roger was an Accounting graduate of SIU in 1966. He was very dedicated to his position with Jamestown Management Corporation where he worked for 42 years and retired in May 2013. He was a Past President at Carbondale's Eagles Club, a member of Shekinah Lodge #0241, sang with a Barbershop Quartet; and was a devoted member of the Victory Dream Center. Roger enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals and SIU Salukis. He was very involved with the food pantry at Victory Dream Center and also supported the Margham, Inc. India Mission. He is survived by his wife, Peggy and children, Tammy Bagley Rinella of Austin, TX, Rodney Bagley (Krista) of Oxford, GA., Brad Bagley (Bonnie) of Assumption, Il., Teri Lay Bodensteiner (Leo) of Bellingham, WA, Sherry Lay (Scott) of Monroeville, IN. , Sam Lay (Jean) of Superior, CO. , Steve Lay (Cathy) of Carterville, Il.; Grandchildren, Brian, Sam, Zach, Ryan, Kirsten, Rob, Trevor, Devin, Keagan, Seth, Niah, Elizabeth, Kathryn, Kayla, Amanda, Jason, Brandon, Kristina, Meghan, Matthew and Sydney; Great Grandchildren, Lilly, Norah, Madeline and McKinley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Elizabeth, Sister, Bertie Schweitzer and son, Scott Lay. Services will be held Wednesday June 19th, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Pastor Doug Cherry Officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Victory Dream Center, Carbondale or Margham, Inc. India Missions, that work with indigenous pastors, orphanages, and widows, in needs-based ministry. All memorial donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
