Murphysboro - Robert Lorinskas, 75, passed away at 5:49 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. Bob was born on December 13, 1939 in Chicago to Anthony and Valeria (Kavalauskas) Lorinskas. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He was a professor at SIUC for 24 years, until his retirement in 2004. He was a long-time precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party, a member of the American Criminal Justice Society and the American Association of Political Science, and a former member of the Jackson County Board. He was of Catholic faith and belonged to St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Murphysboro. Bob is survived by his son, John Paul Lorinskas of Carbondale; daughter, Alexis Lorinskas of Carbondale; former wife, Sharon Lorinskas of Carbondale. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Valerie Lenart, and an uncle, John Lorinskas. A Memorial Mass service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Carbondale, with Father Robert Flannery officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:45 p.m. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Morris Library or the Masses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
