CARBONDALE – Robert Reid, 81, passed away at 12:55 AM, Wednesday, August 15, 2018 in Manor Court of Carbondale.
Robert was born on December 2, 1936 in Chicago to Homer and Alice Jeanne (Adams) Reid.
Robert was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale, where he tended to the gardens and the grounds. He retired from the Jacksonville Mental Hospital as an instructor of trainable children on December 31, 1991. After retirement Robert moved to Carbondale where he was instrumental in getting the Pulliam Hall clock tower working, lit, and chiming. He also was involved in raising and lowering the flags at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus.
Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Linda J. (Donald) Barnhill of Brentwood, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 17, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale with Reverends Alan Rhein and John Annable officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Friday, at the church.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale or Cerebral Palsy Foundation for Research or Prairie Living at Chautauqua, and will be accepted at the church.
