Richard Lee Lipe of Carbondale, Illinois passed from this life on Monday June 19 at Manor Court in Carbondale while surrounded by his family.
Mr. Lipe was born on June 18, 1930 in Makanda, Illinois. He served honorably in the US Army and was deployed to Korea during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lipe worked for the signal department of the Illinois Central–Gulf Railroad for forty-two years before retiring.
Mr. Lipe was a loyal friend, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a dependable family member, a faithful member of The Ridge Church in Carbondale, and an excellent coworker and friend to many.
Mr. Lipe was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his brother and sister-in-law, John and Shirley Lipe, and by a grandson, Jordan Lipe. He is survived by his wife, Anna Ellen (Jones) Lipe of Carbondale, three sons, Roger (Sharon), Scott (Rebecca), and Bruce (Patti), of Carbondale, Vero Beach, Florida, and St. Louis, Missouri, respectively. He is also survived by his dearly loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lipe’s family will be gathered in a private ceremony, conducted by Reverend Wesley Henson of The Ridge Church, to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life. He will be interred at Lipe Cemetery in Makanda.
