Carbondale – Pete Stefko, 73, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 7:06 p.m. at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale

.

Pete was born on Saturday, January 23 1943 in Chicago to Paul and Mary Ann (Holbrook) Stefko.



Survivors include his life partner of 20 years, Carole Shirley; four children, Justin, Christopher, Katherine and Jeremy; 5 Grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.



Pete was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother Joseph P. Stefko.



Pete was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Francis Xavier Church in Carbondale. He was a lifetime member of the Herrin Elks Lodge 1146 where he enjoyed playing Pinochle every week. He was also an avid pool player. He was employed by the Local 1 Union Hall in Chicago as an iron worker until his retirement.



Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church in Carbondale with Father Robert Flannery officiating.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to St. Francis Xavier Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
