Carbondale – Paul V. Tabor, 78, of Carbondale, formerly of Mt Vernon, passed away at 3:30 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2016 at his residence.
Paul was born March 5, 1938 in Detroit, MI to Vaughn Isaac and Ida Ruth (Bloom) Tabor. They both precede him in death.
He married Dana Cottingham on June 4, 1960 in McLeansboro. She survives and is of Carbondale.
Other survivors include; two sons, Craig (Gail) Tabor of Carol Stream, and Jason (Toni) Tabor of Carbondale; one daughter, Lori (Dan) Carlson of Glen Ellen; and ten grandchildren, Olivia Tabor, Chloe Tabor, Corinna Tabor, Cameron Tabor, Bodhi Tabor, Sidda Tabor, Kathleen Carlson, Abigail Rago, Miles Carlson, and Sylvia Carlson.
After Paul graduated from Washington University with an Engineering degree, he spent his early career in the aerospace industry, which included contributions to the Gemini Project. He finished his career as an Automation Engineer with General Tire at Mt. Vernon and Rockwell International in Centralia.
He and his wife were also the former owners of Mt Vernon Sewing Mart. They moved to Carbondale in 2007 and have lived here ever since. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, and were involved with the American Cancer Society. Paul’s favorite hobby is assisting churches in Illinois with their sound systems.
Funeral services for Paul will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeland Baptist Church, in Carbondale with Pastor Phil Nelson officiating. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
The preferred form of remembrances are memorials to the The Cancer Center in care of the SIH Foundation, or to Lakeland Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale or at the church.
