Patty Sue Edwards

CARBONDALE - Patty Sue (Pitman) Edwards, 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Carbondale on Friday, July 14th.

Patty was born Aug 4, 1942, in Evansville, IN. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Ross Pitman and Elaine Vivian (Snyder) Pitman.

She married the love of her life, George Edwards, on July 02,1960. They shared over 59 years of marriage. She loved George more than anything in this world.

Patty was a graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville, IN. Before being married she modeled locally in department stores. She was beautiful inside and out. She was a stay-at-home Mom, however, after her kids were raised enjoyed a long career as an office manager at the local Allstate office for over 20 years.

Her greatest joy was to be with family. She believed in all things holiday and loved nothing more than decorating her home for every season and holiday! Patty was a baker of mile high birthday cakes. She is also know in the family as the absolute best snickerdoodle and molasses crinkle cookie baker in the world!

Patty & George enjoyed attending SIU basketball and football games together. She was also an avid Cardinals baseball fan.

She loved gardening as did her Grandfather and son, Gary. People would often stop to admire her beautiful flowers. Many of the flowers in her gardens were passed down from generation to generation and continue to be.

She was a lover of nature and enjoyed fishing with family, and spending time in Wisconsin and Michigan on vacation with family was always a highlight to her every summer. She was a wonderful wife and mom, and we will cherish all the wonderful times we spent together.

Patty is survived by her sons, Glenn Edwards and wife Traci of Carterville, and Gary Edwards and husband Wade Rouse of Michigan, grandchildren Bryn Edwards and wife Blayn of Sikeston and Connor Edwards and Britney Tindall of Marion, great grandchildren Quynn Edwards & Oliver Edwards, and her brother Larry Pitman of Murfreesboro, TN.

She is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Elaine Pitman, and her loving husband George Edwards.

We will love and miss you and your hugs forever Mom! Glenn & Gary hope you get as many ice cream cones as you want in heaven. We are at peace knowing you are with Dad again.

The family will be holding a private celebration of life.
