Naomi Smith

Carbondale - Naomi Smith, 87, of Carbondale, passed away at 12:04 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Carbondale Rehab and Nursing. Naomi was born December 21, 1925 in Carbondale to Rudolph and Evora (Crowell) Holland. She worked at SIU Carbondale as the President's Secretary and for Richard Buckminster "Bucky" Fuller, as his Secretary, she then moved to Chicago. She began working as an Administrative Secretary for John Puth, President of Gould Battery, until her retirement. In the mid 1990's she moved back to Carbondale. Survivors include her son, Larry Smith of Carbondale; two grandchildren, Shari Buisker of Carbondale and Adam C Smith of DeSoto; and five great grandchildren. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Francis "Hank" Holland. She loved to play golf and visit with her friends in the clubhouse. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, April 26, 2013, at Oakland Cemetery with Rev. John Annable officiating. Friends and family are asked to gather at the graveside.
