Naomi Manering

Carbondale - Naomi Manering, age 103, of Carbondale, passed away 3:30 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015. Naomi was born in Carterville on June 23, 1912 to Anthony and Ethel (Watson) Hampton. She married Kenneth P. Manering in 1942. They were married until his death in 1986. Naomi Manering was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale. Naomi was a Registered Nurse and received her nurses training in Chicago Illinois. She returned to Carbondale to work at Holden Hospital. In 1942 she was employed by Southern Illinois University at the Student Health Services where she became Head Nurse and retired in 1974. Naomi loved to hike, enjoyed nature and was an avid gardener. Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Donna Manering of Makanda; grandsons, Chad Manering of Hoover, Alabama and Tyson Manering of Murray, Kentucky; and great grandchildren, Claire and Carter Manering of Hoover, Alabama. Naomi was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and her brothers Virgil and Wesley Hampton. The family wishes to thank everyone who befriended, visited and cared for her. There will be a private family graveside service.
