Nancy L. Green

CARBONDALE - Nancy L. Green, 79, passed away January 30, 2024 at 12:10 am at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO surrounded by family and friends.

Nancy was born on August 6, 1944 in Carbondale to Jefferson “Autie” Hightower and Lucille (Holmes) Hightower.   Nancy graduated from Marion High School in 1962 and married Thomas A. Green on September 22, 1962.   After spending several years as a physical therapy assistant at Brokaw Hospital in Normal IL, Nancy worked alongside her husband at Tri-Ex Office Equipment in Carbondale, IL.   They then moved the business to Herrin and operated it as T & I Office Equipment, Inc. until they sold the business in 2001. 

Nancy made an impact on numerous people’s lives as a mentor and friend.   She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.   She sold both Lia Sophia jewelry and Purely products until both of those businesses closed.  She was a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society - Jackson County Relay for Life from 2007 until the time of her passing. 

In her spare time, Nancy enjoyed going to see live productions at both the Stage Company in Carbondale and the Fabulous Fox Theater in St. Louis, MO.  She was an avid collector of Hallmark ornaments.   However, her favorite thing to do was listen to her daughter and other talented musicians sing at different southern Illinois wineries and other venues.   Karaoke at Honker Hill Winery was a special favorite because her daughter worked there.

Nancy loved seeing cardinals and feathers.   She believed that they were signs sent by loved ones from Heaven.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Cynthia A. Green of Carbondale, IL, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives, and numerous friends.  She was preceded in death by her infant son, brother, parents, and her husband.

Memorials in honor of Nancy Green may be made to the American Cancer Society - Jackson County Relay for Life (HoDGePoDGe MaNIa team) at PO Box 670; Maryville, IL 62062.

A Celebration of Nancy's life will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, April 27th, 2024, at Honker Hill Winery, located at 4861 Spillway Road, Carbondale, Illinois.
