DE SOTO: Minnie Eileen Jones, 100, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Manor Court of Carbondale. She was born on March 31, 1918 in De Soto, Illinois to Clarence E. and Susie Gurney (Elms) Breeden. She was raised in Murphysboro and De Soto.
Eileen married Vergil Osborn Jones on January 1, 1938 and they shared 62 years of marriage.
She was a very active member for many years of De Soto United Methodist Church until it closed. She then became a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in De Soto.
She worked at the Glove Factory in Carbondale and retired from Allen Industries in Herrin. Eileen had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed needlework and spent many years as a member of the De Soto “Cluckers” quilting group. She bowled on a league at S.I. Bowl in Carterville well into her mid 90’s.
Eileen is survived by her son, Kerry Vergil Jones and his wife, Lola of De Soto; two grandsons, Robert Earl Jones and his wife, Monica of Simi Valley, CA., and Steven Frederick Jones and his wife, Rachel; three great-grandchildren who provided much joy in her life; Kennedy Eileen Jones, Carter Lewis Jones and Collin Robert Jones all of St. Peters, Mo., her brother, William George “Bill” Breeden of De Soto and by nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vergil Jones on June 10, 2000, her son, Marvin Earl Jones on December 16, 1965 and by her sister, Helen Shirley and her brother, Lewis Breeden.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Services will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Monday with Rev.
