Mildred J. Hale

Mildred J. Hale, 95, of Grand Tower passed away at 2:27 p.m. on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Mildred was born November 1, 1919 in Grand Tower to Stanley and Flora (Berkbigler) East. She married Thomas F. (Tommy) Hale on August 5, 1940 in Jackson, MO. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Mildred is survived by one son, Randy (Karen) Hale of Newbury, OH; Nephew, Dennis Lee East of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren and many close friends in Grand Tower including Paula Griggs. Mildred and Tommy owned and operated Ma Hales restaurant in Grand Tower for many years. People came from all over the nation to enjoy their hospitality and family style dinners. After her retirement from the restaurant, Mildred volunteered for the senior meals program in Grand Tower. She was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Tower where she played the organ for many years. Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, Grand Tower with Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, Jaunuary16, 2015 at the Meredith Funeral chapel in Grand Tower. Interment will be in the Walker Hill Cemetery, Grand Tower.
