Michael Bambrick

Carbondale - Michael Bambrick, 72, passed away at 5:32 a.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Michael was born April 11, 1941 in Chicago, to Peter and Ruby (Miller) Bambrick. They both precede him in death. He married Ann (Pottorff) Biggers on July 3, 1978 in Murphysboro. She survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors include, three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike (Debbie) Biggers of Springfield, Mark (Suzi) Biggers of Murphysboro and Brian (Lisa) Biggers of Makanda; one daughter and son-in-law, Patty (Larry) Tate of Carlyle; two brothers, Pat Bambrick of Chicago and Terry (Patt) Bambrick of Watervliet, MI; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Michael proudly served our country in the Army. He was of Catholic faith, a member of IUPAT #32 District 58 and Grocer's Union UFCW #881. He had worked at Jewel Grocery stores in Chicagoland and IGA stores in Southern Illinois. He later worked as a painter for the Painter's Union, and painted at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, until his retirement in 2008. Mike was a lifelong scholar who migrated to Carbondale to get his Bachelor's degree in English from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Besides his wife, Annie, and his family, he loved literature, collecting arrowheads, wood carving and fishing. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Mike was a veteran and very fond of dogs. Therefore, memorial donations may be sent to "This Able Veteran", 1714 South Wolf Creek Rd, Carbondale, 62902, an organization that trains service dogs for military veterans who are overcoming PTSD. This is the preferred form of remembrance. The funeral home will also accept memorial donations.
