Mary Jane Woods

Mary Jane Woods, 66, of Carbondale, IL passed away at 6:11 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Mary Jane was born July 19, 1947 in Carbondale to Carl "Shorty" Calhoun and Juanita (Bonds) Calhoun. Survivors include her significant other of 30 years, Gary Pollock of Carbondale; mother, Juanita Calhoun of De Soto; two sisters, Brenda Lindsey of De Soto, and Wanda (Larry) Woods of Pittsburg, IL; brother Carl (Jeannine) Calhoun of Elkville, IL; one son, Sam (Amy) Woods of Lexington Park, MD; five grandchildren Cain, Sunny, Lorna, Anthony, and Devan Woods; twin great-granddaughters, Vanessa Rae and Daphne Fae Woods, of Clarksville, TN. She was preceded in death by her son, Chad E. Woods; grandson, Christopher Woods; father, Carl "Shorty" Calhoun; and sister, Carolyn Sue Calhoun. Mary Jane was a loving housewife and also worked as a stocker at Walmart for many years. She was also an avid Elvis Presley fan. She will be remembered by her beloved family and friends. Funeral services will be held at Meredith Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Gray officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, from 5-8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Memorials for her twin great granddaughters, c/o Gary Pollock or the American Kidney Foundation for research are the preferred forms of remembrance and will be received at the funeral home.
