Betty L. Kiefer

CARBONDALE – Betty Louise Kiefer, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on March 20, 1929 in Hurst to Ernest and Mary (Lindsey) Mize. Betty married Robert Kiefer on April 27, 1946 in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on November 27, 1984.

A woman of quiet strength and gentle demeanor, Betty worked over 78 years at Horstman’s Cleaners in Carbondale. She was a longtime member of De Soto First Baptist Church. Her presence brought warmth and comfort to all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched. She loved to spend time with her family, especially with her great-grandchildren. She also loved to travel and made many wonderful vacation memories with her family and friends. 

Betty is survived by her daughter, Vickie Kujawa; grandchildren, Ronald Kujawa, Jr., Monica Kujawa and Rachel Stull; great-grandchildren, Kyle, Amber, Kiefer, Madison, Gracie and Dane.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Ernest & Mary; son-in-law, Ronald Kujawa; siblings, Kenneth Mize, Viola Mize, and Naomi Raynor.

Funeral services for Betty will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Pastors Chris Hottenson and Scott Foster officiating. Burial will follow at De Soto Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Meredith Funeral Home.
