Marlis Bank

Murphysboro – Maria Luise Bank, 85, passed away at 6:55 a.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019 at The Landings at Reed Station Road.



Marlis was born in Köln, Germany on November 15, 1934 to Hermann and Maria (Hedderich) Kramer.



Marlis was united in marriage with the love of her life Hans Bank on April 21, 1957 in Köln, Germany. They spent over 60 wonderful years together.



Marlis immigrated to the US in 1965 with her husband and 3 boys. After a short time in Texas the family settled in Southern Illinois. Marlis was a homemaker, taking great pride in raising her children and grandchildren. She loved to look back to their early years and comment “We came to this country as a family of five and now there are over 20 of us!”



She is survived by her two sons, Achim (Patti) Bank of Carterville, and Klaus (Martha) Bank of Glendale, MO; six grandchildren, Kristen Scott, Jamie (J.D.) Steffen, Nichole (Anthony) Marx, Justin, Ryann and Kirsten Bank; eight great-grandchildren, Katie, Jimmy and William Scott, Alissa and Andrew Steffen, Braidon Bank, Kaiden and Jaycee Marx; and many extended family members in Germany.



Marlis is preceded in death by her parents Hermann and Maria Kramer; her brother Hermann Joseph Kramer; her husband Hans Bank; and son, Knut Bank.



Services for Marlis will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.



Memorials can be made to American Heart Association or the Local Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
