Carbondale -- Mark Edward Chaney, 47, born July 8, 1968, in Marion, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016, while plying his life's occupation as master automobile mechanic. Mark was a member of the Third Baptist Church in Marion. He is survived by his mother, Izetta Elaine Lentz and stepfather, Terry Lentz, of Carbondale; brother, Jeremy Chaney and wife, Rachel and children Amiah, Carson and Luke of Collinsville; sister, Jennifer Harker and husband, Don, and children, Anna and Celeste of Liberty Township, Ohio; brother, Terry Lentz Jr., and wife, Phung, of Redmond, Washington; sister, Marsha Acord and her children, Jamie Fisher and Shannon Acord, both of Granite City, and Jason Acord of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Desiree Duong and her six children of Salem, Kentucy; cousins, Vera and Frank Blackman and children of Norris City; and aunt and uncle Lois and Cody Birdwell and children, Jonathan and Kelly Modeff of Lexington, Kentucky. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Jarrell Chaney of Elkville; grandparents, Chester and Izetta Starkey of Carrier Mills; brother Todd Lentz and children of Karnak; and Mildred and Harvey Chaney of Marion; and aunt and uncle Lela and Melvin VanMeter of Norris City. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, in Meredith Funeral Home at 300 S. University in Carbondale. The Rev. Joe Hoem, pastor, of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. From early childhood Mark demonstrated mechanical abilities that developed into his profession including founder and owner of Today's Technology Corp. in Carbondale and Autotronics Corporation in Murphysboro, plus successful associations in other automotive areas. Mark was certified by the National Institute for Automotive Excellence as Undercar Specialist, Master Engine Machinist, Advanced Level Specialist and Master Automobile Technician and further by NAPA Corporation for Ford On Board Diagnostics, Mode 6 Diagnostics Enhanced, Evaporative Emission Diagnostics, Misfire Diagnostics and others. When not engrossed with vehicle servicing he enjoyed becoming an expert in marine biology and maintaining his salt water aquariums species. He also built and decorated his house to his liking with a fondness of masks from worldwide. Mark loved everyone he met. No one was a stranger, keen to assist anyway possible with unusual generosity. Mark was his own man, willing to give any task his all at a moments notice.
