CARBONDALE - Marilyn Jean Annable, 80, of Carbondale, passed away at 3:00 a.m. in St. Louis, Missouri Monday, August 7, 2023.
Marilyn was born in St. Louis, MO, on October 15, 1942, to Grace (Hartmann) Syrett and Alfred Syrett. She married Robert O. Brown on August 17, 1963. He passed away in 2004. She married John Annable in 2005 and they recently celebrated their 18th anniversary.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, John Annable, of Carbondale; daughter Connie (Brown) Morgan, married to Robert Andrew Morgan of Bloomington, IL; daughter Amy Brown of Pleasanton, CA, step-daughter, Nancy Annable of Carterville, IL, stepson, Kirk Annable (Donna); three granddaughters, Molly Morgan of Chicago, IL, Ruthie Morgan of Terre Haute, IN and Megan Gofron of Pleasanton, CA, and grandson, Wilson Gofron of Pleasanton, CA, and step grandsons, Tyler and Andrew Sheely of Carterville, and Cody Annable of Effingham, IL. She is also survived by one sister, Grace Lee Fulford ( Carbondale), and one brother, James A. Syrett ( Sunny) of Fort Myers, FL.
Marilyn loved singing and music from an early age. She sang in the choir at the First United Methodist Church with the Christmas Program being one of her favorite events of the year. She was a graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her career teaching 5th grade in Hazelwood, Mo and later in Jennings, Mo. She continued her career at Unity Point School teaching 1st grade for many years. She loved teaching students how to read and developed many fantastic relationships there with both students and staff.
Marilyn was a member of the KL Chapter of PEO in Carbondale; and was a member of First United Methodist Church and also attended the University Baptist. She was strong in her faith, loved her family immensely, and was known for her kind heart and huge smile. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, MIMI, aunt, and friend.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale with Rev. Jim Barnett, officiating. Private interment services will be held following the funeral service. Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Music Department at the First United Methodist Church.
