Margaret Ellen Huck

CARBONDALE - Margaret “Margie” Ellen Huck, age 88, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Integrity Healthcare of Carbondale. 

Margie was born on March 20, 1936 in Springfield, IL to Robert and Genevieve (Keller) Murphy. Margie married John “Jack” Huck on January 21, 1967 at St. Agnes Church in Springfield, IL.  He preceded her in death on June 25, 2006.

 Margie graduated from St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.   She worked as a nurse in Milwaukee, WI and St. Louis, MO for many years.  When she relocated to southern Illinois she worked at the Murdale Water District office and also volunteered as a nurse for the Red Cross, Hospice and as a summer nurse at Camp Ondessonk and Cedar Point Girl Scout Camp on Little Grassy Lake.  She also spent her time volunteering with the Good Samaritan Ministries Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.  Margie loved to read and do word puzzles.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

 Margie is survived by her son, John Huck of Carbondale, daughter, Jean Anderson and husband, David of Chamberlain, SD; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Ian Anderson; brother, James Murphy and wife, Susie; sister-in-law, Mary Williams and husband, Bruce; nieces, Charis Merrihew, Mitzi Zasiebida, Kate Zeman, Jenny Murphy; nephews, Bruce Williams, Matthew Murphy, and Timothy Murphy. 

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Huck; parents; sister, Mary Murphy; brother, Robert Murphy and niece, Krista Preston. 

 Funeral Mass for Margie will be held at 11:00am on Monday, May 6, 2024 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale with Father Flannery officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.   Visitation will be held from 9:30am until 11:00am on Monday at the church.  For those who cannot attend the funeral mass, it can be live streamed by clicking on this link:  https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/a24055455827859

Memorials may be made in Margie’s name to St. Joseph’s Indian School and Camp Ondessonk.  They will be accepted at the funeral home and church.
