Marek L. Szary

Makanda - Marek L. Szary, 67, passed away at 1:22 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2014 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Marek was born June 17, 1947 in Trzeboszowice, Poland, to Maciej and Maria (Swirska) Szary. He married Agnieszka Barbara Koch on January 19, 1973 in Wroclaw, Poland. She survives and is of Makanda. Marek is also survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Nicholas and Dr. Preeti Szary of Alexandria, VA; his daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Anna and Jaser PhD Azziz of San Mateo, CA; a sister, Elizabeth Wojslaw of Paczkow, Poland; and one granddaughter, Leila Azziz. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother. Marek was licensed as a Professional Engineer, and was as an Associate Professor at SIUC in the College of Engineering, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Energy Processes College of Engineering. He was also the director of the College of Engineering Acoustics Lab, and a member of the Acoustic Society of America. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Robert Flannery officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2014, with the Vigil Prayer Service at 7:45 p.m. at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Memorial donations may be made to the Marek L. Szary Scholarship Fund for the students of SIU College of Engineering %SIUC Foundation, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
