Lowell Raymond Short

CARBONDALE – Lowell Raymond “Ray” Short, 82, of Carbondale, formally of Makanda, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home.



Ray was born on December 27, 1935 to Lowell Rupert and Myrtle Irene (Young) Short in Makanda.



He is survived by his son, Lewis Short of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Lisa Chamness of Carbondale and Sarah Hagen of Murphysboro; grandchildren,

Ryan Chamness, Jamelah Jones, Dajour Yarborough, Malik Allen, Shyreese Rice, Thomas Rogers, Theresa Rogers and Blaine Short; great grandchildren, Selena, Josie, Sophia, Elena, Juelz, Elaine and Jackson.



Ray is preceded in death by his parents.



Ray worked as a custodian for Carbondale Community High School for twenty years. He was a member of the Eagles and Moose Club in Carbondale.

He was also a member of several local labor unions. Ray loved to spend any extra time he had hunting and fishing.



A time of visitation for Ray will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Immediately following the visitation a graveside service will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda with Gene Morgan officiating.



Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will accepted at the funeral home.
