Lorraine Benner

MAKANDA – Lorraine Benner, 91, of Makanda, IL passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her loving family.

Lorraine was born on July 20, 1932 in Dubuque, IA to Elmer and Susan Parsons.

Lorraine is survived by her long time companion, Allan Stuck; son, Thomas Benner of Austin, TX, daughter, Sue Benner of Makanda, IL and son, John (Linda) Benner of Naperville, IL ; grandchildren, Megan (Jared) Schmitt, Jesse (Sindi) Meyer, Amy Benner and Kendra Benner. She also leaves behind a sister, Marilyn Proctor and many great-grandchildren and cousins.

She was preceded in death by; her parents, her husband James Benner, a son, Michael and a daughter, Patricia, her brothers Don and Ed Parsons and a sister Carol Sue Crook.

A Celebration of Life Service for Lorraine will be held at 7:00pm CST on Friday, September 29, 2023 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. For those who cannot attend the service, it will be livestreamed on the funeral home website (www.meredithfh.com). Visitation will be from 6:30pm until 7:00pm CST on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Lorraine’s name may be made to Boys Town or Easterseals Iowa and will be accepted at the funeral home.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in Dubuque, Iowa.
