CARBONDALE – Lois Ann Payne, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was born November 29, 1931 in Mattoon, to Ora and Mary Etta (Marshall) Westrup. She married Frankie Payne on May 17, 1952, in Bloomington. He preceded her in death on February 23, 2010.
Lois was a graduate of Mattoon High School and Miliken School of Nursing in Decatur. She worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years until her retirement at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was a longtime member at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale and a member of PEO. Lois loved cooking, crafting, volunteering, traveling and spending the winter in Ft. Myers, FL. Most of all she loved spending time with her adult children and grandchildren. Lois also enjoyed her dear friends at Liberty Village and the Senior Citizen Center.
Survivors include her children, Steve and Jan Payne of Carbondale, Chris Payne of Allen, TX, Tim and JoAnn Payne of Eagan, MN., Becky Guyton of Troy, Linda and Dan Black of Glen Carbon; grandchildren, Kimberly Black, Megan Black, Amy Guyton, Richard Guyton, Amy Martin, Melinda Payne, Courtney Payne, Mark Payne, Stephanie Payne; and great-granddaughter, Jordan Martin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale with Rev. Howard White officiating. Family will receive and greet friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
The family would like to thank the trauma and acute care teams at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for the superior care given.
Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale assisted the family with arrangements.
