Lloyd M. Haims

ALTO PASS– Lloyd M. Haims, 73, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Lloyd was born on November 19, 1949 to Hymen and Bella (Cohen) Haims in Chicago. He married Marcia Jean Brown on September 19, 2003 in Murphysboro.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, sister Cheryl (Louis) Cassuto of Mundelein; niece Felicia (Michael) Ratajczyk, nephew Adam Cassuto, and many great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Lloyd was born and raised in Chicago. He came to Carbondale to go to SIU, fell in love with Southern Illinois and never left. He obtained his bachelor's degree in History and his master's degree in Community Development. He worked in state, local and federal government for many years. Lloyd was an avid sports fan, especially for the Chicago Cubs. He was passionate about all Saluki sports and bled Saluki maroon all his life.

A memorial service for Lloyd will be on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 2:00pm at Meredith Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Beaton and Vanesa Gerchkovich officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
