Larry Moon

Willisville – Larry “PaPa” Moon, 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.



Larry was born on October 29, 1943 to Harvey and Norma (Penland) Moon in East St. Louis, Illinois. He married Helen Crane on November 2, 1962. She preceded him in death on March 18, 2020.



Larry is survived by his daughters, Laurie Moon (Husband Gary) Strobl, and Kelly Moon (Husband Joe) Martin; grandchildren, Colton Strobl and Kolbie Martin; brothers, Curt (Wife Julie) Moon, and Denny (Wife Penny) Moon; sisters, Glenda McDaniel and Brenda Moon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that are family.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, and brother Gary Moon.



Larry was a dedicated member of Carbondale Community High School, working many years assisting the athletic department. He was strongly supportive of the young athletes at CCHS, evident by the Moon Scholarship Fund. Larry was "Coach PaPa" and “Mister Moon” to many many student athletes at CCHS and Terrier blood ran through his veins... “Once a Terrier, always a Terrier.”



A memorial service for Larry and Helen Moon will be hosted by the family on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the Carbondale Community High School with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until 2:30pm, with the service immediately following.



Flower deliveries will be accepted at 1309 W. North, Carbondale, Illinois, and will be transported by the family.



Memorials may be made to The Moon Athletic Scholarship at Carbondale Community High School c/o CCHS Athletic Department 1301 East Walnut Street, Carbondale, Illinois.
