Larry Gene Holder

CARTERVILLE - Larry Gene Holder, 64, of Carterville, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Sunday, May 13, 2018, in his home. He was born on July 15, 1953, in Holden Hospital (Carbondale) to William E. and Laura “Mae” (Phemister) Holder. On February 14, 1981, he married Cheryl Biggs Goodman, and recently celebrated 37 years of marriage.



Larry is survived by his wife, Cheryl, two daughters, Randi Jo Holder (Carterville) and Jennifer Goodman Berry (husband Dell) (Murphysboro); two sons, Jason Chad Holder (Marion) and Joshua Clint Holder (Carterville). He is also survived by a brother, Michael Holder (Carterville); a sister, Brenda Harrison (Murphysboro); two aunts, Jane Phemister of Hixson, Tennessee, and Sue Hogue of Chipley, Florida; several cousins, 7 grandchildren, 1great grandchild with another one on the way.



In early 2013, Larry had retired from the City of Carbondale. He had worked many years installing water and sewer lines and had an eidetic memory recalling various details of former jobs. He was very meticulous in his work.



More importantly, he was of the Christian faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age. In Larry’s own words he said, “I know where I’m going! I’m saved and I’m going to heaven.”



Please join us in a celebration of life on Friday, May 18, 2018, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, from 5-8 pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to The Nascar Foundation or to the donor’s choice at the funeral home and envelopes will be provided.
