L. Louise Golliher

November 14, 1924 — June 8, 2016

CARBONDALE - Lena Louise (Harper) Golliher, 91, of Carbondale, passed away Wednesday June 8, 2016 at Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion, IL.

She was born November 14, 1924 in Carbondale, the daughter of John Taylor Harper, and Viola Margaretta (McGee) Harper.

Louise married John L. Golliher on June 13, 1944 and they were married 50 years until his death in 1994.

Louise worked as a graduation coordinator at the Graduate School at Southern Illinois University for 28 years. She enjoyed her work at the SIU very much and working with the students.

Louise will always be remembered for her love of nature. She loved to flower garden and watch the flowers bloom each year in her yard. She also had a love of birds, especially owls and bluebirds. She had many bird feeders, and deeply enjoyed her flowers and the visits of the birds while sitting on her porch swing. She was a caring mother and grandmother, and always made you feel loved and special. She had a smile that made her face light up and which others enjoyed very much. She loved to spend time with her family.

Louise attended Grace United Methodist Church in Carbondale, and was one of its oldest living members with a membership of over 70 years.

She is survived by her sister Dolly Seaver of Westland, Michigan, her son Mike Golliher and wife Karyn of Johnston City, IL, her son Dale Golliher and wife Stephanie of Makanda, IL, grandchildren Jonathan (Ashley) of Loganville, Georgia, Carly (Lisa) of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and Vanessa Hodges of Dallas, Georgia; five great-grandchildren, Madison, Abigail and Hudson Golliher and Emily and Georgia Hodges.

She was always “Aunt Louise” to all of her caring nieces and nephews: Larry, Ronnie, Berdeen, Mary Louise, Barbara, Jackie, Kay and Joyce.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Dianna, son John Leslie (Les), brothers Vernon and Bernon, sisters Margaret, Donabelle and Myrtle.

Funeral services for Louise will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Carbondale with Reverend In-Sook Hwang officiating.
