Joyce Rosalie Winget

MURPHYSBORO - Joyce Rosalie (Davis) Winget, age 95, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family on September 29, 2022.

Joyce was born on February 26, 1927, to Clarence and Verna Mae (Greer) Davis. She was born the oldest daughter of ten children and took pride in caring for her younger siblings. She married Glenn O. Winget on February 23, 1946 and they shared 52 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 21, 1998.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. Joyce was always dressed her best from head to toe, with perfectly curled hair and a matching outfit and jewelry. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and having adventures with her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook who loved making meals and desserts for her family. Some of her favorite pastimes were playing cards, completing word search and jigsaw puzzles, hand quilting, gardening and working in her yard.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Glenda Joyce Simpkins; her granddaughters, Lisa (Shawn) Stearns and Leann (Barry) Biggerstaff; great-granddaughters, Stephanie (Bill) Gladson, Emily (Charlie) Eisert, Hilary (Collin) Chandler and Molly Stearns, as well as six great-great grandchildren, who were the light of her life: Paisley and Guthrie Eisert, Abner, Olin and Elliot Gladson and Raelynn Chandler; siblings, Charles Davis, Bonnie Pedigo, Dale Davis, Carol Davis, Junior Davis and Suzanne Hall, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; three siblings, sister, Laceen Davis, in infancy, brother, Billy Davis, and sister, Lillian Jean Needham, as well as her son-in-law, Ron Simpkins.

Services will take place at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 1:00 pm with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Her services will be officiated by her grandson-in-law, Barry Biggerstaff. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale’s Neonatal Special Care Nursery. The family would like to thank Residential Home Health for their assistance in caring for Joyce leading up to her passing.
