MURPHYSBORO - Joyce Lee Deming, 78, passed away on Sunday, November 18th at her home in Murphysboro.
She was born in Carbondale on September 22, 1940 to Merle and Marrietta (Davis) Wright, and was their only child. She married James Roy Deming shortly after graduating from Carbondale Community High School in 1958. They celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 26th.
After a brief stay in Lawton, Oklahoma, Joyce and Roy returned to Southern Illinois to raise two daughters. Deborah (John) Taff lives in Carbondale, IL and Tabitha (Bill) Session lives in New Athens, Il. Joyce was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Carbondale.
She is survived by her husband and children, granddaughters Stephanie Layne of Murphysboro and Nadia Session of New Athens, an aunt, cousins, sister-in-law, nieces, a nephew, a step-grandson, and innumerable friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and two beloved uncles, Roy (Bernadine) Wright and Gordon Davis, both of Carbondale.
Services will be held at 1:00PM on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 in Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Rev. John Annable officiating. Burial will follow in Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joyce’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
