John "Jack" James Lockwood

September 15, 1925 — January 8, 2021

DeSoto – John “Jack” James Lockwood, 95, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital.



Jack was born on September 15, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Max and Gladys (Wilson) Lockwood. Jack married Ann Stone 11 years ago on August 14, 2009 in De Soto, Illinois.



Jack is survived by his wife Ann Lockwood, daughters Sandra Baron (Mark Baron) & Jill Johnson (Bob Johnson), grandsons Craig Baron, Scott Baron, Grant Johnson & Mitchell Johnson.



He was preceded in death by his parents Max & Gladys Lockwood, his brother Dale Lockwood, & his first wife of 58 years Patricia Lockwood.



Jack was an active Navy medic during WWII & the Korean War. His life long career was in the credit/finance industry where he worked until age 80. Jack was always civic minded being active in his community and his church. He was a member of Toastmasters, and also acted as a mediator. He was also a founding member of Christ the King North American Lutheran Church in De Soto, Illinois.



Jack had several hobbies including theatrical makeup, clowning in parades with his daughters, playing Santa for his Virginia neighborhood & decorating his home with creative Christmas lights. He spent many hours playing with his grandchildren jumping in leaves, setting up the sprinkler, working in his woodshop and teaching them how to use his tools.



The funeral service for Jack will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Preston Foster officiating. Burial will follow at De Soto City Cemetery with full military rites by Murphysboro American Legion Post# 127. Due to COVID restrictions facemasks and social distancing are required.
