John Albert Harrison

MURPHYSBORO - On Friday, March 19th 2021, John Albert Harrison of Murphysboro, Illinois passed from this life into an eternity with his Lord and Savior. Born on January 9th, 1954 to Hollis and Evelyn (Jones) Harrison, John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Christian as well as an ordained minister. As a successful business owner, he proudly served his community for nearly twenty years. John was a Vietnam era veteran, serving for eight years, and was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force holding the rank of Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and working with his hands.



John married Connie (Griffith) Harrison on April 10th, 1970. She preceded him in death in 2018. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, John Allen (Misti) Harrison, Shelly Harrison-Jones, and Jason (Jessica) Harrison. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Nicholas (Fallon) Stearns, Kyle (Katie) Stearns, Heather (Devon) Strohmeyer and Makayla Harrison. He was very special to his six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ervin (Brenda) Harrison.



Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. Burial with military honors will follow at McKinney Hill Cemetery, Carbondale. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021 from 5-8pm at the funeral home. Rev. Jason Harrison will be officiating. Due to COVID-19 restrictions no more than 50 people are allowed into the funeral home at one time along with the requirement of wearing a mask and social distancing.



In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to New Life Church of Carbondale (P.O. Box 1532, Carbondale, IL 62903). Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home as well.
