John Adam Yow

CARBONDALE – John Adam Yow, 95, of Carbondale passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family at his side.



John was born on Thursday, June 1, 1922 to Adam and Nettie (Sandars) Yow in Carbondale, IL.



On July 27, 1940 John married the love of his life Marie Evelyn King in Cape Girardeau, MO and spent over 77 years together. She survives.



Other survivors include two daughters Mary Frances (Deon Smith) Crawshaw of Desoto, IL, and Linda Motion. Two grandchildren Rick Crawshaw and Kim Crawshaw; three great-grandchildren, Tiffany Cole, Ciara Cole, and Tori Keller; 2 great-great grandchildren, Essence Haynes, Athena Grace Hallman.



John was preceded in death by his six brothers, Herbert, Edward, Kenneth, Donald, Robert, Virgil; five sisters, Verdonna, Mary-Jane, Halloween, Beatrice, Frances; grandson, Philip Brian and son-in-law Gary.



John served our country patriotically and faithfully in the Illinois Reserve Militia during World War II on July 31st received the meritorious service citation by the grateful citizens of the State of Illinois. In his civilian career John was head of code enforcement and served as Councilman for City of Carbondale from 1985 until 1997. He retired from his committed service to the City of Carbondale in 1983.



John was a long time member of the Masons and Shriners, as well as Murdale Baptist Church parishioner. He was one of a kind, who loved to spend time with his family and numerous friends. John will forever be truly be missed by many.



Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Murdale Baptist Church in Carbondale with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating. Mausoleum entombment will follow right after services at Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale. Visitation will take place on Friday, March 9, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
